DESCRIPTION:Join us for\, “U.S.-Danish Relations and Greenland” with speaker Ambassador Carla Sands\, former U.S. Ambassador to Denmark. \n\n\n\n– Social Hour begins at 5:30pm– Dinner begins at 6:30pm (Reservations are Required)– Presentation begins at 7:30pm with Q&A to Follow \n\n\n\nSpeaker’s Bio\n\n\n\n\n\nCarla Sands is Chair of the Foreign Policy Initiative and Distinguished Senior Fellow for Energy Policy at the America First Policy Institute. She was appointed to President Trump’s Economic Advisory Council and served as U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark\, including Greenland and the Faroe Islands from 2017-2021. \n\n\n\nDuring her tenure\, she and her team increased U.S. exports to Denmark by 45% from $2.17 billion to $3.94 billion\, according to MIT’s Observatory of Economic Complexity. Ambassador Sands’ top priority was to strengthen U.S. national security by establishing a consulate in Greenland. Through close collaboration with interagency partners and Congress\, this goal was successfully achieved in 2020. \n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Registration\n\n\n\nThe presentation at 7:30pm is free and open to the public. SUMMARY:Fall Embassy Trip - POSTPONED
DESCRIPTION:A message from FPACP President Patti Grady Regarding the Embassy Trip\n\n\n\nDear FPA Members and Friends\, \n\n\n\nI’m writing to share some disappointing news regarding our upcoming Embassy Trip. \n\n\n\nLast week\, we discovered an unexpected problem with our FPA post office box. I want to thank Julie Duke\, who noticed that the mailbox had been empty despite several checks and followed up with the post office. We learned that USPS had discontinued our post office box in mid-September because they had not received our payment. As a result\, all mail sent to the box was returned to the senders. \n\n\n\nIronically\, our payment had been mailed in early August\, but unfortunately\, it appears to have been lost in the mail. The good news is that the situation has now been resolved and our post office box is once again active. \n\n\n\nUnfortunately\, the timing of this issue has created a real challenge for our Embassy Trip. At this point\, we have only 14 online registrations\, and because so much of our correspondence was being sent by mail\, we have no way of knowing how many additional registrations may have been returned to the senders. \n\n\n\nWe need a minimum of 61 participants for the trip to break even. After much consideration\, and with great disappointment\, the Board has made the difficult decision to postpone the Embassy Trip until April 2027. \n\n\n\nThis was not an easy decision. We know that many of you were looking forward to this special opportunity\, and we were very excited about sharing the experience with you. We sincerely hope that postponing the trip will give us the opportunity to regroup\, reach more of our members and friends\, and make the April 2027 trip the successful event we had envisioned. \n\n\n\nFor those who registered and paid online\, a full refund will be processed to the credit card used for payment. If you mailed a check and we received it\, we will return it to you. \n\n\n\nI am truly sorry for the inconvenience and disappointment this may cause. Thank you for your patience\, understanding\, and\, most of all\, for your continued support of the Foreign Policy Association of Central Pennsylvania. DESCRIPTION:Join us for\, “The Iran War: Was it Worth It?” with speaker Dr. Larry Goodson\, U.S. Army War College. \n\n\n\n– Social Hour begins at 5:30pm– Dinner begins at 6:30pm (Reservations are Required)– Presentation begins at 7:30pm with Q&A to Follow \n\n\n\nSpeaker’s Bio\n\n\n\n\n\nLarry P. Goodson is Professor of Middle East Studies at the U.S. Army War College\, where he is the only person to hold the General Dwight D. Eisenhower Chair of National Security twice (2014-2017\, 2004-2007). Dr. Goodson has been continually called upon to serve as a regional advisor on Afghanistan\, Pakistan\, and the Middle East by senior U.S. military and political leaders. \n\n\n\nAmong his other academic appointments\, Dr. Goodson taught at the American University in Cairo (1994-2000) and conducted his dissertation field work in Peshawar\, Pakistan (1986-1987). Dr. Goodson completed all his academic work at the University of North Carolina. He is the author of the New York Times bestselling Afghanistan’s Endless War: State Failure\, Regional Politics\, and the Rise of the Taliban (2001) as well as numerous chapters and articles. Currently\, he is writing “The Syrian War: First Great War of the 21st Century.” In this\, he discusses his in-depth research on hybrid warfare. He also currently teaches a course in hybrid warfare at the U.S. Army War College. \n\n\n\nDr. Goodson has lived in Egypt\, Pakistan\, and Afghanistan and traveled extensively in the Middle East and South Asia\, including India\, the Gulf countries\, North Africa\, Israel\, Jordan\, Lebanon\, Syria\, Turkey\, and Cyprus. He has lectured on Afghanistan\, Pakistan\, Islam\, and the Middle East to audiences at more than 100 universities\, schools\, and organizations\, and been interviewed more than 1000 times on those subjects since September 11\, 2001. \n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Registration\n\n\n\nThe presentation at 7:30pm is free and open to the public.
